History
GAF has been a major factor for over 40 years in the horse worlds
of showing, foxhunting, polo and point to point racing.
In the 60's and 70's, the primary emphasis was on showing, fox hunting
and point to point racing. GAF produced many champions in the hunter
world at shows ranging from the Maryland Pony Show to Madison Square
Garden. The farm also produced many horses who were champions of
Virginia and Maryland in divisions ranging from ponies to working
hunters and open jumpers.
The farm also produced many field hunters that were utilized in
numerous hunts throughout the country. Joseph A. Muldoon was the
trainer throughout this period.
During the 80's and 90's, the farm was primarily devoted to polo.
The GAF Polo Teams were primarily made up of members of the Muldoon
family: Big Joe Muldoon, Joe Muldoon, III, Mary Muldoon, and professional
polo player, Charles Muldoon. Additional players were brought over
as needed from Argentina. The team during this period was primarily
mounted on Argentine polo ponies. The team won many national and
international championships.
Yet the emphasis today at GAF has switched to boarding horses, horse
shows, foxhunting and breeding. As part of this program, the farm
offers boarding and training for a few selected clients under the
tutelage of Joe Muldoon. He has recently retired from his practice
of law in Washington, D.C. and returned full time to his first love,
the horse world.
